Upcoming MTA Service Changes at 125 St (1 Line): Transit Alternatives for Columbia Affiliates

October 15, 2026

Beginning October 24, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will implement service changes on the 1 line to accommodate critical rehabilitation work at the 125 St station. The work will repair platform and structural steel components to help ensure safe, reliable service and is separate from the future ADA accessibility improvements planned for the station.

Columbia Transportation will provide additional shuttle service and share alternative travel options to help Columbia affiliates navigate these changes.

What to Expect

The following service changes are scheduled for October 24 through December 18, subject to change:

  • Weekdays: Southbound (downtown) 1 trains will bypass 125 St but will continue to make all other scheduled stops, including 116 St–Columbia University.
  • Weekends: Southbound 1 trains will operate express between 137 St–City College and 96 St, bypassing 125 St and several other stations.
  • The northbound (uptown) 1 platform at 125 St will remain open during this phase of the work.
  • The MTA has indicated that the first phase of these service changes is scheduled to take place October 24 through December 18, 2026.
  • After the southbound platform rehabilitation work is completed, rehabilitation of the northbound platform will begin in mid-January and is expected through March 2027.

  • Weekdays: 116 St–Columbia University.
  • Weekends: 96 St.

Other options include nearby A, C, B, and D subway service and the following local bus routes:

  • M4: Stops near the 110 St, 116 St, and 137 St stations on the 1 line.
  • M104: Runs parallel to the 1 line between Times Sq–42 St and 125 St.

The Manhattanville campus is also within walking distance from the 137 St 1 train station for those who prefer to not transfer to a bus or another train. Citi Bike stations near the subway station and around Manhattanville and Morningside offer an additional option for getting to and from campus.
