Lamont Park-and-Ride Program Adds Ten New Spaces

Lamont shuttle waits in the parking lot at Lamont campus

The Lamont Park-and-Ride program recently expanded, adding ten new parking spaces for Columbia affiliates who want to park at Columbia’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory campus in Palisades, NY for a nominal fee and ride the free Lamont-Doherty Shuttle to and from campus. This recent increase brings the total to 51 parking spaces.

The Lamont Park-and-Ride program began in 2017 to reduce parking demand for Columbia’s Morningside and Manhattanville campuses and mitigate Manhattan traffic. The effort also reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with commuters – an important tenet of the University’s sustainability plan, Plan 2030 – and provides affordable, convenient travel for affiliates who live in the North Bergen and Rockland County areas.

Columbia runs a free shuttle bus from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., generally every hour. The 15-mile bus ride takes about 35 minutes without traffic. It also helps commuters avoid the George Washington Bridge toll, parking costs, and wasted time driving in Manhattan. Parking costs $175 per month and registration can be found here.
